Organizational Activities

The Joint Research Centre is the scientific and technical arm of the European Commission. It is providing the scientific advice and technical know-how to support a wide range of EU policies. Its status as a Commission service, which guarantees independence from private or national interests, is crucial for pursuing its mission: "As the Commission's in-house science service, the Joint Research Centre's mission is to provide EU policies with independent, evidence-based scientific and technical support throughout the whole policy cycle. Key policy areas include: environment and climate change; energy and transport; agriculture and food security; health and consumer protection; information society and digital agenda; safety and security, including nuclear; all supported through a cross-cutting and multidisciplinary approach."

Role in the Project

The role of JRC in SCINTILLA is two-fold: in the project front-end JRC prepares together with end-users the requirements and criteria that the developed tools will have to satisfy (WP1: usage case); in the final phase, JRC will perform the experimental test of the instrument performance and coordinate the evaluation of the results (WP4: test-bed services and technological benchmark).
