The SCINTILLA Exploitation strategy will operate at different levels: the centres of expertise, the commercial partners and the scientific laboratories.
The partners acting as European or national centres of expertise on detection of radioactive sources and nuclear materials - JRC, FhG INT and CEA - will disseminate the information about the solutions available in the SCINTILLA Toolbox as well as the Technology Benchmarks to different user organisations such as border security agencies, first responders (police, firemen etc.) and specialised agencies (such as CEA in France or HOSDB in the UK).
The industrial partners in SCINTILLA - SYMETRICA and SAPHYMO, two leading-edge SMEs specialised in solutions for the detection of radioactive sources and nuclear materials - will commercialise and support mature products developed out of the SCINTILLA results. Depending on their respective TRL some of the technologies are expected to become commercially available before the end of the project, others after project end. The time horizon for exploitation ranges from 2014 to 2020.
The exploitation plan also addresses options for making the SCINTILLA Partnership Network economically sustainable, together with the SCINTILLA Test-bed Services and the SCINTILLA Technology Benchmarking. One of the options will be to give the SCINTILLA Partnership Network a separate legal entity (e.g. as a non-profit body) in order to ensure its continuity beyond the lifespan of the SCINTILLA project.
